Welcome to Quinten's Portfolio

I created all of these projects using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript over the course of several months. There are no frameworks here because I wanted to prove my skills with vanilla JavaScript. I am always looking to refactor and improve my code for a smooth, clean script. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have!

Tic-Tac-Toe

This is a small project of a classic game. Programming this game took a lof of logical operators, arrays, and functions.

Rock, Paper, Scissors

Another classic game. The logic here called for if blocks, switches, and dynamic text!

Digital Clock

The famous Japanese shrine makes for a cool aesthetic to watch the time go by. This project sharpened my skills with method chaining and dynamic inputs.

Calculator

The calculator surprised me by how challenging it would be to use arrays and method chaining, including new methods like parseFloat, to seperate numbers from operators and perform calculations. This is my first solo project without any tutorial.

Image Slider

The image slider fascinated me with the brilliance of looping over an array of objects with the forEach method, using first-class functions, and using the CSS classes to compliment the logic of JavaScript!

A Game Called Pig

The expert methodology of naming classes in HTML to give your JavaScript logic a smooth flow is a must. Coordinating dynamically with the DOM through removing classList, adding classList, and toggle showed me how the entire game can change with a few functions. The if(playing) guard clause is a neat trick to bring everything to a halt.

Weather App

This project introduced my to async functions, their await promises that go on behind the scenes so the JavaScript can run smoothly. Using the try/catch methods to troubleshoot is essential to having complex code running in the background, which is how I integrated the OpenWeatherMap API to fetch data based on user input.

Tseyneray

Tseyneray means trivia in Yiddish. This was probably the hardest project for me personally because it is the first one since the calculator that I did solo. This project called for a lot of advanced DOM manipulation to get each part of each array into the container dynamically. The grading system required a forEach loop with a callback and an if/else block! I also set up a leaderboard array in local storage. Ironically I hard-coded the trivia questions because I felt that I make better trivia than any API or AI ever could.

Mapping App to track workouts all over the world!

This project utilized the OOP paradigm with ES6 classes, binding methods for the "this" keyword, super inheritance, and functions/methods programmed into the parent classes to save valuable space. The HTML naming system is impeccable once again to ensure absolute organization of containers, forms, inputs, and labels. Some of the HTML is actually coded into the JavaScript for a dynamic and responsive form.
